Your family is a living, breathing story that is constantly evolving, and there is no place more beautiful to document that journey than right here in the islands. Whether you are celebrating a milestone, enjoying a long-overdue vacation, or simply want to freeze a moment in time with your children, professional photography ensures those memories never fade. As a dedicated photographer, my goal is to go beyond the traditional posed portrait to capture the genuine laughter, the quiet connections, and the unique spirit that make your family whole.
In Hawaii, we often speak of ohana, a word that carries a weight much deeper than just “family.” It represents a bond of unconditional support and love that extends through generations. During our session, I strive to honor that concept by creating an environment where every member of your ohana feels seen and comfortable. By focusing on authentic interactions rather than stiff perfection, we create images that don’t just show what you look like, but how you feel when you are together.
From the lush greenery of the valleys to the iconic shores of Honolulu, the island of Oahu offers a spectacular variety of backdrops for your session. We can chase the golden light at sunset on the West Side or embrace the vibrant morning blues along the East Side coastline. As a local who understands Oahu’s unique lighting and terrain, I work to balance the stunning natural landscapes with expert lighting techniques, ensuring your family remains the true focal point of every shot.
Choosing the right photographer means finding someone who values your experience as much as the final product. I believe that a family portrait session should be a fun, stress-free highlight of your time together. By guiding you through natural movements and encouraging play, I help take the pressure off, allowing the real magic to happen. The result is a collection of high-quality images that serve as a timeless legacy for your children and grandchildren to cherish.
Investing in professional family portraits is an investment in your history. These images will eventually become the heirlooms that grace your walls and fill your albums for decades to come. If you are ready to capture the beauty of your bond against the breathtaking scenery of Honolulu, let’s connect. It would be an honor to document your story and provide you with a tangible piece of your Hawaii experience that you can hold onto forever.
How much time do I need to schedule a photo session?
I prefer four weeks’ or more notice prior to your Hawaii photo session, it may depend on my availability & if I do have a date open, at minimum two weeks.
How should I dress?
My advice to you is to wear something you feel comfortable in. If you have matching shirts and dresses for your family, shorts and slippers, or formal wear.
I’m worried about posing.
Easier said than done but don’t worry, I have 12 years of experience posing model photo shoots and couples portraits. I want your experience to be stress-free and, most importantly, fun!

As the family photographer, Honolulu-based Ryan Sakamoto holds all copyrights to the pictures he provides, which cannot be sold or reproduced in print or digital form for monetary gain.
Do I use AI in my editing?
No, I do not use AI to make someone smile if they’re not. I do not replace skies if it’s bad weather, cloudy, or a gloomy sky at the time of the photo session. I do not make a person skinnier than they are in real life or remove tan lines or sunburn marks.
Yes, I do use AI to assist with skin cleanup and minor blemish removal. However, I do understand that for many people this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip & I can do a sky replacement to change a dark & gloomy sky to a sunny day or sunrise/sunset at an additional cost per image. Please understand that a sky replacement may not work on all images.
